On November 1, 2024, the much-awaited TATA IPL 2025 player retention list was officially announced. As of October 31, all 10 IPL franchises have finalized their lineups by retaining core players for the upcoming season. The player retention window has officially closed with a total of 46 players retained across teams, with a combined investment of INR 558.5 crore.
For the IPL 2025 mega auction, each franchise will have a salary cap of INR 120 crore to complete a squad of 25 players. Teams could retain up to six players (Retention/Right to Match), with a maximum of five capped international players and two uncapped Indian players.
Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and past winners Rajasthan Royals have maximized their retention spots, securing six players each. Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad each retained five players. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings retained four, three, and two players, respectively.
With INR 110.5 crore remaining in their auction purse, Punjab Kings enter the IPL 2025 mega auction with the largest budget, setting them up for significant acquisitions.
