IPL 2025: Defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders did not have a good start. It had to face defeat in 2 out of the first 3 matches. But as soon as it reached its home Eden Gardens it made a comeback and crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 80 runs on 3 April. With this big win Kolkata made a special record in its name. The Kolkata team was looking very weak till now. But after defeating a team like Sunrisers Hyderabad by a big margin it has once again come into the limelight. Kolkata defeated Hyderabad for the fourth consecutive time in the IPL. Apart from this KKR also registered its 20th overall win against it in this tournament. With this it has become the first team in the history of this tournament to win at least 20 matches against 3 different teams. Earlier Kolkata has defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) 21 times. At the same time it has also defeated Punjab Kings 20 times.
However KKR set a new record of winning at least 20 matches against 3 different teams. But the record for most wins against the same opponent is held by Mumbai Indians (MI). Interestingly the Mumbai team has done this feat only against Kolkata. MI has won 24 matches against KKR. At the same time Kolkata has defeated Mumbai only 11 times. Apart from this MI has won 20 matches against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) while CSK has won 21 matches against RCB.

KKR has taken a long jump in the points table as soon as it defeated Hyderabad. Earlier it was in last place with 2 points in 3 matches. Now after this strong win they have 4 points from 4 matches and with a net run rate of +0.070 they have come to the fifth position. On the other hand Hyderabad has suffered a loss due to this defeat and has slipped to the last position.
