Gary Stead: A big news is coming out related to the New Zealand cricket team. New Zealand Cricket has reported that Gary Stead has decided to leave the post of head coach from the white ball format on Monday. Now it will be decided in the coming few weeks whether he will re-apply for the role of Test coach or not. Gary Stead was appointed the head coach of New Zealand after the resignation of Mike Hesson in 2018.
Gary Stead can re-apply for the Test coaching position
In the official statement issued by New Zealand Cricket Gary Stead said that he is looking forward to staying away from his hectic life for some time and thinking about his future. His focus at the moment has been on finishing the season strongly with a less experienced team. The schedule has been very busy in the last six to seven months as non-stop cricket has been played during this time.
He further said that he now wants to reconsider his options but still feels that he has the ability to coach but not as a head coach in all formats. In the next month he will discuss his future with his wife family and others. After this discussion he will be able to understand better whether he should reapply for the Test coaching position or not.
New Zealand won the WTC title in 2021
Let us tell you that during the coaching tenure of Gary Stead New Zealand won the first World Test Championship title in 2021 and then registered a historic 3-0 Test series win against India in India in 2024. However under his coach the New Zealand team could not win any ICC trophy in the white ball format. New Zealand lost the 2019 World Cup final played in England and the final match of the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE. Last month the Kiwi team also missed out on winning the Champions Trophy title for the second time. They had to face defeat against India in the final match played in Dubai.
