The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has now reached its exciting turn. A total of eight teams are participating in this tournament and they have been divided into two groups. There are four teams in each group and the top two teams of each group will make their place in the semi-finals.
Group A situation is clear, Group B is still confused
The situation in Group A is almost clear, where India and New Zealand have confirmed their place for the semi-finals. Both the teams have earned four points each by winning their first two matches. However, one more match is yet to be played between India and New Zealand in the group stage. This match will decide who will be at the top position in Group A and who will be in second place. However, this match will not have any significant impact on the semi-final teams.
On the other hand, the situation in Group B is still not clear. England has been eliminated from this group, but Australia, South Africa and Afghanistan are still in the race for the semi-finals.
The battle for the semi-finals continues in Group B
At present, Australia and South Africa have three points each in Group B, while Afghanistan has two points. The remaining matches of this group will decide which two teams will reach the semi-finals.
- Afghanistan vs Australia – This match will be played in Lahore on Friday. If Australia wins this competition, then it will have five points and will be directly entered. But if Afghanistan wins this match, then it will have four points and Australia will be on just three points.
- South Africa vs England – This match will be played in Karachi on Saturday. If South Africa wins this match, then it will also enter and Australia will be out. But if England wins this match, then the situation will be even more interesting, because the decision of the Asian player will be based on the net run rate.
The situation of the semi-finals will be clear after the last league match
Now the question arises that which team will compete with India in the semi-finals? India and New Zealand have one match left in Group A, which will decide who among them will top the group. However, the result of the India vs New Zealand match will not decide which team India will face, as it will depend on the last matches of Group B.
If India tops Group A, it will have to face the second-placed team of Group B. On the other hand, if New Zealand tops and India finishes second, India will have to play against the top team of Group B.
The semi-final match will be played in Dubai on March 2. At present, India’s potential opponent can be any one of Australia, South Africa or Afghanistan. But its final decision will be taken only after the last two matches of Group B. Cricket lovers are now eagerly waiting for these matches, so that it can be known who India will face in the semi-finals.
